Simple Sunday Dress Sewing Pattern and Sewing Class!

Our fluffy model!
front

back

Today I made a Simple Sunday Dress for demonstration purposes for the AllBrands Sewing Class tomorrow! (size 6 months - 9 months above) This is some of their awesome fabric. So delicate and sweet, I think! Grace just got her pink Care Bear out of the dryer and she was hugging her in the kitchen and so you see who got to be the model tonight! Grace wanted her to keep it but it is not ours to keep. This will go in the AllBrands store after the class.

Sewing Tip: If you purchased the Simple Sunday Dress you will notice at the end of the directions that I suggest tacking the bow. I highly suggest that. It is very simple to do. I simply tie the bow and tack about 2 stitches forward and back as close to the knot of the bow as possible in the middle of one of the creases. I do this on each side of the knot. Then I tack 2 stitches forward and back on the second piece of the loop of the bow on each side. Does that make sense? You know how the bow is two loops and there are two pieces to a loop. The second tacking I do is the second piece of the loop. Am I really confusing you!! :) Once it is done, the stitches are hidden in the creases and the bow is in place!

Twirl SKORT Skirt Sewing Pattern and New Sewing Pattern venture!

Look how cute this little mascot Twirl SKORT is!! I have my Twirl SKORT fabric ready to create three "Disney" Animal Kingdom outfits!! Here is what this awesome Mommy said, "Thank you, from a Home EC dropout that only completed her drawstring bag in school in the 6th grade. I bought your Faith Top pattern last weekguess I thought that i could sew?. Finished making 2 of them in 2 hours:, and within 24hours of my first order I bought my 2nd pattern. I made the twirl skort, finished last night. It is adorable. The pattern was very easy to do. The illustrations were very easy to follow. It helped that I could enlarge the directions for greater detail. I will let my cousin try on the skort after I pick her up from school today!! I know she will love it. Thanks again!! Love the patterns please keep them coming!! Thanks for the inspiration!!"

Wow!! Thanks so much, C, for sending this cute cute picture of your awesome Twirl SKORT Skirt and thanks so much for the kind words!!

As always, I get so touched when you send in your awesome Mommy creations! Here is another one of those emails from a first time Mommy sewer! I hope it brings you inpiration and encourages you and says to you "You Can Do This Too!!" Here is what this first time Mommy sewer said, "Just wanted to thank you for the awesome pattern! I had never sewn anything before and even had to read my owner's manual to figure out how to thread my machine. Previously my sewing machine had sat in a closet for 2 years after purchasing it and a pattern at the fabric store determined to teach myself to sew. Three long confusing days later I threw it in the back of the closet vowing to never touch it again. Last week I decided to give it another go and purchased your twirl skort pattern. In a weekend I was able to create my twirl skort. Your directions were so clear that I was never confused, in fact I was actually having fun. Creating this skirt even gave me the confidence to attempt to appliqué a matching shirt. My daughter loves the set and so do I. I can't wait to make more!!!!!"

First, look how cute her little girl is in her new "Mommy" created outfit!!!!! WoooHoooo, J! How awesome!! Your skort is just too awesome as well!!

Ok, how awesome is this email! So for all you Moms who have your sewing machine hidden and tucked away in a closet because you got frustrated at your last attempt at sewing..... take her out and put her to good use!! You can do this!! The best advice I could give is allow yourself to make mistakes. It is OK! It will actually help you learn faster and better. Use your sewing manual when you need it. If you lost your manual, get online and find another one. They are out there. You will be amazed at all the good sewing techniques that are in your manual. For SewSensible Patterns, all you need to know how to do is a straight stitch and a zig zag stitch! And you don't need an expensive sewing machine for this!! I started SewSensible on the $99 sewing machine my Mom gave me about 8 years ago and I still use it now!!

My New Venture! In several posts back, I talked about Kay Whitt with SewSerendipity. There are just some people that you know crystal clearly God put in your path. Kay is one of those people. I am in the process right now converting all my patterns to an actual physical pattern. I am almost finished with the Boutique Bottoms and will be working on the Boutique Dress Top. It is work but the new venture is so exciting!! I have released this to God and He can do what He wants with it. I am keeping my goal: designing with the beginner in mind. Pretty soon I will be in need of 5 people to test the new directions. I really will need someone who has never used SewSensible patterns before and I would love if they were a first time Mommy sewer!! If you are, please email me at sewsensible@sewsensible.net

I pray all of you have an abundantly blessed weekend!

I am adding this picture to show what the pantaloons look like underneath the skirt. Lee, there are ruffles on the skirt and ruffles on the pantaloons (shorts). :)

I never paid any attention when my mother sewed growing up. Now, as a mother of five (four girls), I'm beginning to sew and enjoying the creative outlet sooo much. Without your patterns and pictures, I'd have never had the courage to try. My mother is impressed and thinks you've taught me a lot. Thank you and keep 'em coming." Ok, first this little cutie is just edible looking! Asa, our first son, was just as chunky as your precious daughter and I just loved all those chubby parts!! Yes, I like FAITH as a dress! Women's Sewing Patterns, Inspiring Women!

Kay, owner designer of
SewSerendipity

There are different people that you come across in your life or at least my life that really impact me and inspire me and leave an impression with me that will never be forgotten! In reference to SewSensible, a few come to mind, first Nanette from Nanoo Designs, who not only helped me with sewing questions in the beginning and sometimes even now but we have also shared this business venture together! When I think about Nanette I can't help but think of a big heart. That is Nanette: a mother and friend with a big heart! Thanks, Nanette! Oh, and she has a new pattern available now and one in the testing phase! You can check it out here.

Another woman that comes to mind is Kim from You Can Make This! Kim's site was the first place I started selling my patterns and little did I know then that today it would be what it is. When I think of Kim I think of smiles, a soft sweet disposition, and an awesome business woman. I have never met her personally but she has definitely left a lasting impression with me. Thanks, Kim, for your encouraging words and for giving me an opportunity to let SewSensible blossom!

And I have to add Jennifer Paganelli. I definitely have never met her but you can't help but be drawn to her. Go ahead and see why! Check out her blog and website. A successful business woman, Mom, and fabric designer yet she gives you the impression you have been friends for years!! She has surely left an impression with me that I will never forget. And Jennifer has her new fabric design available, Flower Power!! I already ordered me some at Fabritopia. I plan on making some Twirl SKORTS for my daughters for our family Disney trip in June! Thanks, Jennifer, for your kindness, your sweet heart, and of course your beautiful fabric designs! You make sewing so much fun!!

And then their is Kay! Kay is one of those people! What kind of person am I talking about? You know, the one who helps you pick up your coins when you drop them, the one who lets you out in an overcrowded congested street corner, she's the one who you don't even know in the grocery store but she looks at you and says Good Morning! Ok, so I don't know for sure if she does all this but my first impression tells me she is all of these things! SewSensible started as a hobby but God had other plans for it. If you were to cut me in half there would be three specific passions in my life: God, My family, and Orphans/Adoption. Little did I know God would give me another passion: SewSensible! I never envisioned that SewSensible would be what it is today and I am in awe that God continues to "step it up a notch." This is where Kay comes in. A simple email from one of Kay's friends (who I don't have permission to mention her name but that story will be told one day as well :) connected me with Kay. She has already impacted me in the short week I have talked with her via email! Kay is a designer of sewing patterns for clothing and accessories with a modern yet classic style. But more than that she is a woman of no nonsense, a woman who does not have a problem in helping another pattern designer grow and a woman that the world needs more of! Thank you so much, Kay, for sowing into me. May you reap as much as you have sown in me!! She is the owner of SewSerendipity. Please visit her site and blog when you get a chance. And look at that beautiful trench coat she is wearing in the picture above!! Yes, that is one of her patterns! Come on, Moms and GrandMoms, and Aunties, you know you've been wanting to make you something!! Kay has been in the pattern business for the past 8 years. A former school teacher just like myself! She doesn't need me to promote her patterns but I just thought you would like to know who is behind these patterns! There's just something about knowing the person behind the business that makes buying their products so much sweeter. Don't you think? Here are some of her patterns:

So THANK YOU to all these women who have inspired me to "step it up a notch" in reference to SewSensible!! I hope to share some of my new ventures with all of you in the near future!!

Ok, are you inspired yet!! These are some awesome Mommy creations that I received last week and this week! Awesome awesome! And can you believe that some of these Moms were first time Mommy sewers? Can you pick out which one was a first time Mommy sewer? :) I believe you will not be able to!! Great job, Moms!! Thanks so much for blessing me with these awesome creations all of you made and your little models are so cute!!

Here is what some of these Mommies said, "Hi Aimee, well here it is, my little girls first outfit sewn by her Momma...with it's million mistakes and all. Good thing I have such a cute model and you can't see it up close and personal via my email pictures! :) LOL. Still I don't think it's too bad considering I have never sewn anything before. I didn't have a clue how to even thread the machine that was given to me before I started on your pants pattern. I still have SO much to learn, but your patterns are SO easy to follow. I am someone who really needs every step laid out and your did that wonderfully. I will keep at it and I'm sure make many more mistakes and hopefully many more cute outfits....I can't wait!! :) Thanks so much Aimee!"

"Aimee', here are some of my latest creations. I love your patterns, they are so incredibly easy! I am already working on more outfits. I was not able to photograph my daughter in them because she would not want to take them off - and it is below zero outside! I have been sewing for years and not only do I find your patterns to be easier than many store bought patterns, they actually come out looking better. Thanks so much! CS"

"Thanks so much for the great patterns!!!"
