I am working on this padded laptop bag sewing pattern. There will be options for an eReader bag or an iPad bag along with a short handle like you see above or a long shoulder strap. I am designing it for the beginner so do not let the zipper fool you or should I say scare you. I promise you can do this!! Wait..... did I just promise this!!? Well, that's how sure I am that you can do this and look how great it turns out! I will also make dimensions for a bible cover as well.

Padded Laptop Bag Sleeve Purse

Laptop Bag

I am working on a Padded Laptop Bag which will also be an eReader bag/sleeve, and an iPad bag/sleeve. I am really not sure whether to call it a bag, purse, sleeve, or satchel. The one above fits a 10"x15" laptop. I decided to purchase some of the hardware from local harware store for customers who do not have a local hobby craft store in their area. The O-rings were perfect (Home Depot or Lowe's) versus the D-rings that are usually used for purses. So either would look great. The swivel clasps are at Home Depot or Lowe's. The padding was on the insulation aisle. There are several more padding options I will try but this worked just great.

I was able to use this particular laptop bag at two meetings already the compliments were awesome! As always, I am designing with the beginner in mind. Don't let that zipper fool you! It was a cinch and I did not use a zipper foot at all. BUT if the zipper scares you (which it should not :) you will be able to leave the zipper out. It will also have a short handle option or a long strap option.

Hope all is well with you. The weather has been in the 70's some days and then jumped to the 40's. We are back at 70's today..... Yay!

Hello! I pray all of you are doing great and that you are already being blessed this new year. This morning I hand delivered a sweet photo pillow to a dear friend whom I have known since I believe Kindergarten. We live in the same town but I haven't seen her in probably 20 years. The funny thing is when I saw her today I just saw the sweet girl I knew in elementary school. It was great seeing her today. About two years ago her precious daughter went to be with Jesus unexpectantly. When I heard the news my heart sank. I just couldn't believe someone I knew was going through something as painfully devastating as this but my pain was nothing compared to what she was experiencing. When you hear something like this it wakes you up more to embracing every single day making sure not to take it for granted and enjoying each child of ours better than the day before. And that is how I choose to live even if I have to remind myself some days or should I say even if He has to remind me some days because that has been my prayer: that I don't take my life for granted or my family He has blessed me with. God is very faithful to show me the days I am taking my life for granted :) and believe me He reminds me a lot..... like now :) see even as I am writing this and trying to concentrate, our five year old is crawling all over me kissing my lips and cheeks uncontrollably and acting like he is my prince charming (no really he has watched too much Tangled, Beauty and the Beast, and Gnomeo and Juliet. he is obsessed with kissing me :) and our six year old is at the other end of the couch spelling almost every word in the book she has in hand asking me how to say what she's spelling, the problem is I am concentrating so hard on writing this that I don't hear all the letters she is saying so she has to start over :), also the LSU Alabama Championship game is own, and our 8 year old is laying next to me crying because she thinks she is getting corrected. And the secret is..... I wouldn't trade it for the world!!

So my 2011 recap:

In reference to family, this year has been such a joy to enjoy the age our children are, all their interests (and dislikes), their elaborate stories, and just watching them be kids . There has been lots of backyard fun with the garden, trampoline, dome monkey bars, bikes, footballs, frisbees, sidewalk chalk, Little Pet Shop, Super Mario Wii, Just Dance for Kids family dance off, lots of Beyblade's letting it rip, princess and her prince charming, praying together, worshipping together, much family bonding at the dinner table and family pictures! I treasure my family and never want to take them for granted. It has been a very good year!!!!!

In reference to ministry, of course family keeps me busy but in addition to family Tommy and I lead an orphan adoption ministry at our church His Heart for Orphans. In mid 2011 our church launched a foster care initiative and I joined that team to focus primarily helping the children in our local foster care system get adopted, recruit more foster parents, support our church families who have adopted, are fostering, or want to do either but just do not know where to start. I have three passions in my life: family, orphans/adoption, and sewing with God being over it all. I still believe God blessed me with SewSensible and I look forward to jumping back into a SewSensible routine!

In reference to SewSensible, this past year I happily emailed customers their orders, drew up many ideas and dreamed about sewing :) I have been sewing away in my sewing room for the past two months. Right now I am working on a new Easter Basket pattern, a padded laptop/ipad sleeve, and an eReader sleeve. I've also been sewing pillows! Two have been photo pillows for two families whose loved one went to be with Jesus. One was for a childhood classmate whose precious daughter went to be with Jesus and the other pillow was for a sweet friend of mine's daughter whose Grandfather went to be with Jesus last month. The third pillow is a custom graphic I drew which I hope to have available one day. I have found a very fun and rather addictive cute way to customize pillows..... printable fabric sheets.

I have been working on the next physical pattern changes. If you recall I added the Hope Joy Bubble Top to the physical Twirl Skort sewing pattern last month. The two together make a cute outfit! The one above is Faith Double Layer Dress Top in its orginal design and I am adding the Boutique Bottoms (capri length) and renaming it Boutique Capris for this physical pattern. I know maybe a little confusing but after I have all the new covers and pattern additions and changes this year it will not be so confusing :) Along with this pattern is a double layer skirt which is the Faith Double Layer dress top minus the straps and loops. These two patterns are probably the EASIEST for beginners to sew as far as SewSensible customers have commented in the past 4 years. Above will be the new cover. The next pattern I am changing and adding to will be the Reversible Pleated Dress Top with Boutique Shorts. I am very happy to say my re-design/update to the Twirl SKORT is available in physical version. Last year I decided to design a new logo and update all my physical patterns with a new cover. I sold out of the Twirl SKORT so that is why this is the first one available. The pattern is not changed. The update is an additional pattern to the physical version. The Twirl SKORT is now the Hope Joy Bubble Top/Twirl SKORT physical sewing pattern stock number #455P. Well today I finally was able to take pictures for two covers!! Yay!! It was cold so outside was out of the question especially when sweet little Grace started crying because she was cold. The pictures were taken inside the Coffee House shop and I think they came out cute! My new little model is my niece Annalyce. She did a great job!! The first one above will be the new physical pattern: Hope Joy Bubble Top paired with the popular Twirl SKORT! This will be available in February as a physical. The next one is the Embellished Pillowcase Dress with three ruffle options. This one should be available in the next two weeks as a downloadable and of course all are designed with the beginner in mind!

Sewing Patterns for Beginners and New Covers!

I am busy working on many projects! For 2011, I have been working on all new covers for all my physical patterns along with adding something more to the patterns. Here is the first look at one pattern that will get something extra! For the Twirl SKORT physical sewing pattern I will be adding the HOPE JOY Bubble Top! I am excited about this because now when you purchase the physical pattern you will be able to make a complete outfit or just the Bubble Top by itself to go along with a pair of cute jeans or make just the Twirl SKORT to go along with a cute pair of boots and solid tee! Whatever you choose to make I am sure your little one will be cute in Mommy's creations!! I have redrawn the pattern to add the HOPE JOY Bubble Top and will be sending that to McCall's next week. I just need to double check everything before I send it off. I am almost finished with the directions except for the fabric requirements and little things like that.

For my next project I have been working on the Embellished PillowCase Dress! It is a simple pillowcase dress with three options of ruffles. I work very hard at making the directions as detailed as possible for all you beginner sew-ers! This is what takes me so long but I so enjoy the finished work when complete! I have the Embellished Pillowcase Dress pattern already drawn out and am three quarters of the way through with the directions and graphics. As most of you know, you can easily google a pillowcase dress and get the basics of how to sew one of these very poplular dresses. My goal with doing this dress, and I thought about it for a long time, was to offer a more simpler way of doing a couple of the steps. I believe you will like the outcome.

For the next project, I have cut out the cover outfits for the new FAITH Double Layer Dress Top and it will have a double layer skirt added to it. Something fun and very easy!

The next project are my aprons. I have corrected a few pattern dimensions but other than that I hope to have this one available as a download in February.

The last project until I get all these finished is to complete the Reversible Pleated Dress Top cover. I am adding some Boutique Shorts with this physical pattern with options of ruffle or band to the shorts.

Now you know what I have been doing!! I seem so scattered at times with so many projects but it is all coming together as it should.

Here is what is on my mind today: Sewing Pattern Projects!! (and of course my favorite coffee cup goes along with me that I found for a few cents at a hand-me-down store aka Treasure Store as the children call it!! Who in the world would part with such an amazing coffee cup!! ;)

The New Year is almost here and I am just so excited! I love a New Year and making plans and dreaming!! I believe that is why I love Disney so much: you walk into a world where people like you and me dreamed big and imagined and believed..... you walk into the fruition of their dreams and ideas!! I love that! (ok I have Disney on the brain evidently!! )

A year ago I designed two apron patterns. One of the testers of the apron pattern emailed me the other day to see if she could get the pattern again because she could not find hers and she really wanted to make a bib apron for her twin sister. I am thankful that she did email me because it got me excited about the aprons again! I decided to try and make it available before Christmas. This is the bib apron but the pattern also makes a hostess apron. I posted the pics last year. Here is the Hostess Apron from this pattern. I have designed it to be very simple to sew. I don't have the fabric yet nor the ribbon so hopefully on Monday I can run to the nearest fabric store and pick that up and have this pattern ready for download by next weekend (but of course I am not making any promises ;) This is a great hostess gift idea or a fun way to add holiday decor to any party or gathering. It will also make a great addition to your child's cake serving spoon! So many fabric choices makes for a very fun project..... and super fast!

Not quite finished with this one and I do not have any vintage looking buttons so I had to use the only rhinestones I had and it looks very imitation but at least you get the idea. Twirl SKORT information: I am out of stock of the Twirl SKORT physical sewing pattern. If you are interested in this physical pattern you can visit one of the shops on the right sidebar that sell SewSensible boutique shops. Now for the update: I am working everyday on patterns for 2011. I will have the Twirl SKORT physical pattern ready again in the beginning of the year. It has been one of my top sellers and I understand why..... we all love our children to dress modestly and this pattern did all that along with making our precious little girls laugh and play, jump and flip while being modest! I just love this pattern and can't wait for it to be available again.

Side Note: for all of you that own the Twirl SKORT or will be buying it I do want to let you know there is one spot that many are sewing incorrectly (and when I say incorrectly I mean not the way I designed it but they may like the way they are doing it so take this sewing tip for what it is): When sewing the skirt onto the pantaloon make sure to take all of the skirt and flip forward over the pantaloon and not fold it to where you make a casing. The correct way to flip the skirt over the pantaloon is to flip it completely over. If you have the pattern you will see what I am talking about when you get to that step. It will make a difference in the look of the Twirl SKORT. If flipped correctly the skirt will hang right over the seam of the ruffle of the pantaloon. If flipped incorrectly the skirt will hang higher above the pantaloon ruffle. Again, take this for what it is. If you are flipping the skirt the other way and like it then great but just wanted to make sure everyone knew the way the pattern was designed. Love all of you and can't wait to show you my changes and additions for 2011!!

Sewing for Beginners!

What is that? Well, if you are a beginner sewer you are probably asking this question. This is a Bodkin. It is a blunt instrument for threading or as I solely use it to put my elastic through the waist band! I lost mine this summer and the other day was blessed to be able to go spend a couple hours in a fabric store and got me another bodkin along with saturating my self with fabric goodness!! HA!! and also use a gift card my sweet aunt gave me for my birthday! Thanks, Aunt Peggy and thanks Mom for watching the kiddos for me to leave for a few hours!!

Now of course a safety pin works very well inserting elastic but once you use the bodkin..... well, you will see! Where can I find a bodkin? At any craft/fabric store usually by the needles, snaps, and measuring tapes. How much does a bodkin cost? This little treasure was under $3 (worth every bit of it!)

Well, hello! (smile smile) Last night I opened all of SewSensible, got out my pattern ideas, the new logo I have been working on with my ever so loved doves incorporated in it and just absorbed what I have missed so much! We are still walking in this path we have been placed on but God has shown Himself strong and it is no doubt that as we war during Spiritual Warfare there is a new level of authority one gains and an increased passion for the hurting. That has happened to us. So many good God-moments have come out of this but WOW the pain was real and it hurt! :)

Anyway, I have missed you so much! I have not sewn in months and I can't wait to start again. I am not quite there yet but I know it will not be long. I also want to thank you for all the kind emails and comments I received since June! Wow! I have to say those times I received them were such encouragement and helped lift me up on those days. I so appreciate you guys!

Summer Sewing Plans and Family

Well, I write this as our family is walking through something that requires our immediate attention. Does anything ever go as planned? (smile smile), you know all those plans I had for our summer. My husband and I have 8 children as most of you know and 6 of our blessings were adopted. Adoption is such a precious blessing but the reality is some of our children have come from "hard places" and without the proper care, love, nurture, and counseling these children cannot heal from their past. We have been blessed with some pretty amazing children but each carries different pains from their past that have gotten our attention this summer. Our family is our top priority. I love the call to be each of their Mom! I embrace that role with all I have. With that said, I literally cannot squeeze in time to work on my new patterns and I was adding extra stress to me by pressuring myself to do it. I have come to a place of peace though now and it feels good. I have prayed about what we are going through and about every area of our life. This summer has been difficult but our Father has held us strong and carried us through. Now here are my plans (smile smile): August I will resume finishing my new patterns. Thanks again for all your kind emails. If you have sewn an outfit using SewSensible patterns please don't hesitate to email me! I love to see them and they really inspire others to sew!

Last note: If you are going through something that feels and looks bigger than you please know that you have a Father that is waiting for you to call on Him in your time of trouble or pain and I promise He will show up and carry you through! The song in the last post may spark the fire deep inside of you. I know it empowered me to rise up, stand firm and watch my God fight this what we are going through!

Summer has know doubt been busy to say the least but all good! :) I have been sewing the cover dresses and outfits for my upcoming patterns. I am working on directions today and the rest of the week. When I am home deep in "home" life Tommy and I do not get a whole lot of "us" time so we have made it a point to get away together just in the past couple years. Summer break will be officially here tomorrow! (However it has already started for almost all of our children except two). I love Summer just like I love the beginning of all seasons. I always plan and dream and hope that I can do all we want to do during that time. I have plans and dreams of gardens, flowers, sewing, patterns, kids laughing, library reading, rainy June days, summer hot cooled with water sprinklers, barefoot feet with mud between the toes, sweaty hair and kids smelling..... well, you know how heat and sweat make you smell LOL! and lots of BBQ's. AND I love it all!!!!!

Yes, Quilt Market 2010 is here and wow it is so hard not being a part of it! It is just not my time. With a family of ten I cannot do all I want to do but maybe next year!!!!! my sweet little niece in her very own Mod Girl Dress!

The past month we have had a full plate with the orphan adoption ministry His Heart for Orphans we lead at our church: tv interview, online adoption discussion live chat, Mom's coffee break, a play date, an adoption workshop this morning, and a foster care prayer vigil next week. It is all good! Anytime we get to bring hope and encouragement to anybody in regards to adoption and help another child who has no Mom or Dad get adopted it is a win win for us!

I am a little slow with the Mod Girl sewing pattern and it is with some good reasons. I am making a few changes to some things but I am not going to talk about yet however hopefully I will get to share in the coming month.

I hope all of you are having a great end of the school year and I am looking to seeing what you guys..... hmmmhmmm girls are sewing this summer! I can't wait to show you a few things I have been sewing too!

Church, family, crawfish, homemade blueberry pie from berries our children picked the day before and a cookie cake! And if you are not a Mom and had a very hard time going through another Mother's Day because you desire to be a Mom then I was praying for you..... specifically Hebrews 11:1 "What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see." I am believing with you for Him to give you the desire of your heart..... to be a Mom!!

I made my daughter and granddaughter dresses that are a cross between the revised scoop neck and the simple sunday dress. This GrandMother used SewSensible Scoop Neck Dress Top sewing pattern, Boutique Bottoms sewing pattern and the Boutique Easter Basket sewing pattern. She said, "Hi, Aimee, Just thought I'd share pictures of my granddaughters in their scoop neck dresses I made for them from your pattern. This pattern was really easy to follow and turned out cute. My granddaughters love their dresses and their Easter baskets to match! I made P's (my 2 yr old grand) little bloomers as a modification to the boutique bottoms-instead of the ruffle, I just added elastic sewn a couple of inches from the bottom. I made P's dress much longer than the pattern dimensions as she wanted hers long. I think it turned out really pretty that way. I'm sure I'll be using this pattern again, I'd like to do tops next. P's Easter basket had the bunnies going sideways, but that's the way it had to be since I didn't have enough fabric left otherwise-oh, well, we just do what we have to do! She loved it anyway! I also made a basket for my little nephew. Keep churning out those patterns, they are GREAT! D

I tried sewing in high school and tried to make shorts which were quite hysterical and I just gave up. Well many years and 3 girls later, I started to teach myself to sew again, making simple dresses etc. Well this Easter I decided it was time to try pants. Mind you I have had your pattern for a couple of years now, but always too scared. Well to my surprise It was so easy and I made 3 of them. I don't know how many of you remember me working on some apron patterns last year but I am back on it! I thought I would have them ready for this past Christmas and I even have all the tester photos but Christmas just came so fast that I decided I would do it this year and hopefully ;) be ready for this Christmas!! Above is a hostess apron. This pattern is both a hostess apron and a bib apron. I hope to make the bib apron next week. The other pattern is my first Women's Dress Top that I never made into a pattern but took the design and made into a reversible halter apron. Anyway, this is one of the projects I am working on right now. I am waiting for the fabric that I will use for Mod Girl to come in and will start drawing up the directions this week!

I was blessed yesterday again by an email from a wonderful GrandMother who made all her Grandbaby girls their Easter Outfits! I just know how she was feeling Easter day when she was surrounded by all these beautiful children! I know her heart was FULL of joy not only to have them all together but to see a piece of her covering them!

Here is what she said, "Hello Aimee, Thank you so much for what you do. I know you have your hands full. I have purchased two of your patterns so far, boutique top & bottoms. I will be making another purchase soon. I am an advance sewer but appreciate the simplicity of your patterns because they look like I spent a lot of time. Here is a couple of pictures of my 5 granddaughters and myself from Easter. I also sewed one for a friends daughter. I have three grandsons I included their pictures so they don't feel left out. Ok I have to admit that when I saw "and myself" I was like WHAT I don't see a grandmother in that picture!! The older I get (and I am only 40!) the more "grandmothers" look so young!!!!! Oh wait!! I am a grandmother too! (a young pretty lookin grandmother too!!) HA!!

"Hi Aimee! I finally had a little time to make a second dress for my little girl. She really loves it and I am so pleased with the way it turned out. You made it so easy with you pattern. Everyone is impressed with the pleats and I love those covered buttons! Definitely will be making another one for her. You know, I have been sewing since I was six years old and I never thought I would be making dresses for my girls. My mother is a master seamstress, but I had a bad experience in home ec in school which cured me from wanting to make clothing of any type (that is so sad). You know, I get many emails with all kinds of sweet words about your sewing experience and just like the email above how you now love to sew for your loved ones! Recently I received an email from a kind woman who had 50 years of sewing experience and she wanted to tell me how my patterns were not for beginners and how my graphics were hard to understand and how outrageous my prices are. At first I read her email and it was a big hit in the gut to say the least. Before I answered her though I prayed and responded with love and respect for her experience with my patterns. I will say that I never got into this as a big money making endeavor. Yes the money helps but the biggest reward are emails like the one above and the many others that I receive from Mom's who are sewing again or just started sewing and are loving it! My patterns are not typical. I will surely admit that :) They do not use standard sewing terminology and my graphics depict to the best of my ability a visual for almost every step. Based on several years of feedback, first time sew-ers appreciate my directions. I say all this because I realize I can never please everyone as much as I would love too. About the price, I believe anyone who uses independent pattern designer patterns knows I am very comparable to what is available out there. My prayer is that you have a very enjoyable sewing experience with my patterns and if you run into a problem or question while you are sewing I am just an email away! My goal is to get you to just get in front of the sewing machine and feel comfortable and excited about sewing and then you can move on to bigger and better sewing patterns!

I do appreciate every comment and email so please keep them coming along with your awesome Mommy, GrandMommy, and Aunt creations!!

Also, if you are an instructor and are planning to have a classs with SewSensible boutique patterns, my suggestion is please sew an outfit first before teaching the classs that way you will become familiar with my pattern and directions and if you run into a problem or question I can answer it before class day.

Mod Girl will be ready as a downloadable by next month! I tried it with a heavier ruffle and I think it turned out cute :)

Now you know I fall short of His glory everyday too? I am just like you..... a busy Mom who loves my family and strives to do better everyday and thanking God for His forgiveness BECAUSE I NEED IT!! HA!!!!

And for all you Moms who need a little encouragement: did you know that in Proverbs 31 she sews!!!!! Here is what I do when I feel I fall short: I ask Him to forgive me and then I read a passage in the bible and stand strong and try again! I just reread Proverbs 31 and it brings me such joy. Remember when you read it if you think you are nowhere who she is: Proverbs 31 is what God is growing us to be. It is a process! We do not get there overnight! That was a huge revelation for me. Everyday we become more and more like Proverbs 31 as we strive for it!! I will post it and maybe it will bring some or all of you joy today!

Almost here! I have finished the back cover. We have an adoption fellowship today at our city park so I will be away from the computer today but hope to continue finishing the final details of getting this pattern released tomorrow (and Grace's 5th birthday party is tomorrow!) The busy life of a work at home Mom!!!!!

To all you busy Mom's I salute you and give you today this scripture that spoke VOLUMES to me yesterday morning. God always comes at just the right time to give us encouragement! I was having one of those nights where I just was so disappointed in how I reacted to my children and thought about all the ways I could have done it differently..... you know..... "could've lowered my voice", "could've said it a different way", "could've smiled instead of been frustrated"..... all those "could haves". And when I woke up yesterday morning the daily devotional I get on my computer said, "Read through Romans 8:28-39. Thank God for loving you, regardless of how well you are doing as a parent." WOW! Did I ever need that word of encouragement! I love my family and children dearly and I believe I do a good job fulfilling that role BUT I always want to be open to be even better! So for all you Mom's reading this who wish they "could've done it differently" (whatever that is), I want to give you encouragement!!!!! He loves you regardless!

Romans 8:28-31 And we know that in all things God works
for the good of those who love him, [fn] who [fn] have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. Still working hard to get Happy Girl out!! Looks like it is pushed until this weekend because I have decided to add a simple headband to the pattern! You are going to love the changes from the original picture from January! It is such an easy sew and looks absolutely adorable on the girls (if I may say so myself ;)! Above is the long version or below the knee version. I have not hemmed this one yet and I need to add the green fabric covered buttons that will look cute cute! Grace is also wearing the simple headband that will be with this pattern.

So yesterday I photographed the girls for the Happy Girl sewing pattern cover downloadable version. I have to say that this is not my expertise!! First, I know I did this at the wrong time of day (bright and sunny!) and second, I am still learning my camera! Yes, it can be so frustrating! I have narrowed down to one for the downloadable version cover. The physcial version will be different because I am adding a bonus pattern. The pictures above are just some fun shots of the girls. They were good sports while Mommy freaked out a couple times too many!! HA!!

These are the above the knee option with either gathered or pleated dress. Rose is wearing the gathered version and Grace is wearing the pleated version. I am working hard to get this out by Wednesday!

New Sewing Pattern: Happy Girl!

Happy Girl

I am diligently working to get this pattern released before the end of February! Thanks to all the feedback from the wonderful testers and all my testing I did the dress has changed a little bit from the original 1920's low waist inspiration (and believe me you will love the changes from the original!) It fits better and the sewing is much easier! So what has changed? I got rid of the waist band. I redesigned the bodice top. I added an option gathered panel at the bottom or the pleated panel option and I added side ties which really gives it the sweetest look when on! I finished the directions just now, printed them out and will proof read them tonight. I still need to get the pattern pages on paper and put into pdf. When is the last day of February? It is Sunday!!!!! Reality is: this pattern will not be available until Wednesday of next week only because I give the pattern pages to my husband to make into pdf!

The picture above is one of the cover dresses. I still need to add the fabric covered buttons on the scallop accent and hem the bottom. There will also be an option to have an above the knee length and a below the knee length. Wouldn't this make a cute Easter Dress!!? I just might make the two cover dresses two of my daughters Easter Dresses! We will see!

As always, all of my patterns are designed with the beginner in mind and this one is no different! I have made it very simple to sew and still give it that sweet boutique look! The downloadable version will be available this week and the physical version will be several more months but it will have the cutest bonus pattern to go along with the physical!

Working on New Sewing Patterns!

Yesterday was just a beautiful Louisiana day and today looks to be promising as well! The children were able to play outside pretty much all day while my wonderful hubby continued working on some cabinets that will go in our side room. It will be used for the kiddos computer space along with my fabric and pattern supply storage. I picked the colors yesterday and the first layer was applied. Today it will hopefully get a little sanding and then the second layer.

Above is another variation of Mod Girl sewing pattern. This is the dress top version. There will also be a dress version. I have to say I tested this pattern ALL DAY yesterday! I am not kidding. I was busy running from window to door checking on the children then back to sewing machine all day. I just cannot get the neckline the way I was hoping so I made this variation and I love it. It is a simple yet sweet modern look! Oh, and super easy to sew!

I will be focusing on the three new patterns this week. Hopefully getting

Happy Girl out by the end of February.

Today I am home from church due to my precious 3 year old's nasty cold; however, our church has online service which I am surely going to watch since our pastor is talking about Total Trust In a Total God! Sounds like something I surely need to keep reminding myself. If any of you are sewing or have a sick little one this morning and cannot make church then go here for live online service.

Remember Grace's birthday dress from last year? I made this and wanted to make a pattern but never got around to it BUT I finally got around to it!!!!!

Meet Frilly Frock girl! She is going to be so sweet and frilly!! This will be a dress top or a dress option. I will let you know more details at a later date.

I am still waiting for Happy Girl tester feedback and comments. I have decided to add an optional gathered dress panel instead of just letting it be a pleated dress panel. I am also working on another pattern that I believe you will love as much as I do! I hope to have a sample to show you next week!

So do you like what you see below? I am thrilled with it! There is a cute pocket with ruffle trim on center of bodice. There is a band with a double ruffle where you can stop here for a dress top or add a third layer for a longer style dress! so excited!! I hope to have this as a download in March and as a physical several months later.

Ok!! So do you want this fabric too!! My word! So cute!! Of course those little girls would look cute in anything! This awesome Mommy creation was made using FAITH Double Layer Dress Top and some Michael Miller fabric and here is what she said, "We are going on vacation next month and one of the things we are going to do is go to the San Diego Zoo. So, I had to make my girls matching zoo themed tops with the Faith pattern. This is the first time I have used this pattern and it is awesome. So easy to sew and my girls loved them so much they wanted to wear them today. Which was fine, until my little one spilled chocolate milk on hers. If I have enough fabric left over I am going to make some boutique bottoms." J

New Sewing Pattern Happy Girl!

Meet Happy Girl! In another post I'll have to tell you how this name came about. This post gives you more of an idea of what the new sewing pattern will look like! This is not the cover. This is actually a test of the changed pattern pieces and of course I used my good fabric when I told the testers not to on their testing :) Thank God it fit! I have not hemmed the bottom yet and I added "faux" which sounds better than "fake" buttons. They are actually drawn in :) This dress was originally inspired by the 1920's drop waist dress but when I tested it the dress made my daughters shape look so funny. As one tester said and she was so right, "it looks mermaidy". So I came back and raised the waist a little higher and changed the front and back top band. The bottom panel of the dress is pleated with a subtle femininity of side ties. It also has a pretty scallop and ric rac accent on the front of the dress. It is hard to see the details from this picture.

Anyway, it is at the testers right now and I believe I can have this one ready in the next 12 days! Again, all of my patterns are designed with the beginner in mind!

Wouldn't this make the sweetest Easter dress with a matching Boutique Easter Basket!! ;)

New Sewing Pattern not quite here!

I am getting great feedback from the testers for the new sewing pattern! I am just writing a quick post to update you. I am in the process of redrawing a few parts of the dress. There were two areas that bothered me and the testers made note of it too: 1. there was a slight "buncy-ness" under the arm and the dress was too long. This design was originally a drop waist dress but I will tell you that a drop waist that is too low looks so funny on my daughters!! I changed that to the waist and need to go up a little more. I think I figured out the "bunchy-ness" under the arm. The testers are great and will receive the revisions by Friday of this week. I hope to have this dress available in the next two weeks as a download and this one will be a physical hopefully by April with some cute BONUS patterns!

I have received such the sweetest emails in the past two days and I just want to share them with you not for the reason to make SewSensible sound good but hopefully to inspire Moms or Aunts or GrandMoms who have been wanting to sew but just fear patterns and directions! New Sewing Pattern coming in February!

I am here, I am here! I feel like Horton hears a Who movie! Here is another picture of the new pattern that will be available in February as a downloadable pattern. The physical pattern will come two months later with a bonus pattern with it! I will keep you posted. I saw online several sites that had the ric rac flower and that is what you see above. I have to say mine surely did not come out like the ones I saw!! I think I will just stick to the original idea of fabric covered buttons (no buttonholes, just for looks). I stopped on the second ric rac flower because I was unhappy with the outcome so I will be taking these off. I am working on the directions which takes me a little time. In the meantime, if you have any awesome custom creations using SewSensible patterns that you would like to showoff, please don't hesitate to send them to me!! They always bless me and inspire others! Also, if you purchased the Scoop Neck Dress Top from YCMT, you can now go to "My Library" on your page and download the new revised version.

New Sewing Pattern coming in February!

!!!!! NEW SEWING PATTERN COMING IN FEBRUARY !!!!!

Here are some up close details of the new pattern (with no name yet!). Now this pattern may look like it has some details that are not for a beginner but I have made it super easy for the beginner to make this dress. Some of the details are the scallop accent with fabric cover buttons on each scallop. There are no button holes. The buttons are for looks only. You can also add a small fabric flower/rosettes on each scallop or some vintage buttons. Also if you look closely you will see some rick rack on left edge of scallop accent. This was not something I originally was going to add but I just love the subtle sweet accent of rick rack!

My fabric for the cover came in yesterday!! I do want to make a small change to the front top band to make it fit a little better. This is a drop waist dress that sews together very easily! I will be working on the top band the next couple of days. I will need some testers so thanks to the ones that already let me know. Please email me so that I can place you in this sewing pattern folder of testers.

I received this cute picture of an apron that was done using my bluebirds applique design! So cute!! Thanks so much, R, for sending me this picture! I love it!!

Yesterday I remembered I had some corduroy fabric in a drawer and took it out to use for the new pattern. Well I believe it came out cute but the corduroy was a little too heavy for the shoulder ties which REALLY frustrated me so I am going to not suggest using corduroy for this pattern (unless I change the design of the shoulder ties which I may do). Frustration is not an option for my patterns!! Right?!! Right! The picture below the apron is a small view of the corduroy outfit. I am waiting on my good fabric to come in so that I can add the fabric covered buttons on one and then I will make another one of these dresses with fabric flowers and I have a couple other accents I want to add to a third dress. This dress comes together so well that it is easy to make a couple at a time.

!!!! COMING IN FEBRUARY !!!!

Well, I am going to give you a BIG sneak peak which I promised myself I would wait closer to the release date but I just cannot!! I printed off the fabric (Sandi Hendersen's MeadowSweet) that I will use for the cover and drew up these little designs for you. This gives you a pretty good idea of the look but it surely does not show the details as well as the real thing! This also gives you a look into some of the steps I take to get to an actual outfit! I am really seeing the knee socks and all with this pattern! What do you think?

This will be offered first as a downloadable BUT the good news for this year I will have BONUS patterns with the physical. I have been asked to only do certain patterns for physical and certain patterns for physical and I have considered this but I believe the bonus pattern idea may be more fun and beneficial for all! So starting in 2010 all new designs will be both downloadable and physical EXCEPT the physical patterns will have a couple bonus patterns! I believe everybody will be happy with this! The pattern above is a 1920's inspiration. I will say that the waist band and pleated skirt will be a little lower to create more of a drop waist. There will be a scalloped accent on the front with fabric covered buttons on each scallop. The buttons are for accent only. There are NO BUTTON HOLES! I will also make one with flower accents on each scallop to give it a different look. This pattern, as all my patterns, is designed with the beginner in mind. I was able to make the size 5,6 this morning and it fit Rose very well. So now I have pattern pieces for sizes 3,4,5,6 done and need to make sizes 6m, 9m, 1, 2. I have created this pattern with simple lines and simple directions. It comes together very well!

The New Year is here and I am so ready to start sewing! Now just to find the time. Today our two 2 year old granddaughters came to live with us so with a total of 9 children in our home I do know I will surely be trying to manage my time to the fullest :) Above are some fabric combinations that I will use to make several outfits: FAITH Double Layer Dress Top with matching Boutique Bottoms, a Twirl SKORT, and an Applique Apron Skirt. If you are a first time reader of my sewing blog then hello and thank you for stopping by! All of my patterns are designed with the beginner in mind. If you have never sewn anything or just sewed a pillow or a curtain then I suggest the Boutique Bottoms to start. This will familiarize yourself with my patterns and build your confidence to sew. Christmas Skirts!

The girls wanted skirts this winter so they could wear their stockings and boots so that has been the outfit of choice this season which made it SUPER easy for me!! I made a Christmas skirt for three of my daughters and then made two more for two of my nieces. They loved their skirts and so did I (especially because it did not take long to make all five!) The pictures above were at our home for Christmas Eve. It is tradition for my Mom, brother, sisnlaw and their children to come over. It was later in the evening this year so all was inside which made for a loud blessed time with 10 children running around! (and Zoë even cooperated and smiled which was a Christmas miracle too ;)

For Christmas presents, I did make more skirts for other nieces and Annalyce and Mia always get an outfit for Christmas. I made them each a Boutique Dress Top with matching Boutique Bottoms. As soon as the weather gets a little warmer I will take pictures of them wearing it. I know they will look so cute!!

I am looking forward to the New Year! I have all my drawings of new designs and I plan to start narrowing down to about 5-7 patterns this week and next. I am excited about 2010 and my prayer is that all of you and your family are abundantly blessed this new year! May God increase your finances through these difficult times! My hope is that some of you can make some Boutique clothing using my easy patterns to make some extra income for your family. Some great ideas are to make a few outfits and take them to your church. You will be amazed at the Moms that will want to order some outfits. The best way to simplify and not get overwhelmed is to purchase a few coordinating fabrics and offer three simple designs to start off with. You can offer the Boutique Dress Top with a matching Boutique Bottoms and/or FAITH Double Layer Dress Top with a matching Boutique Bottoms, and/or a solid tee with a cute pair of ruffled Boutique Bottoms. All of these patterns are not just easy to sew but they make adorable outfits that just do not go out of style. There are many great fabric shops and I have found that some of the fabric designers I love make the prettiest coordinating fabrics which make it so easy to choose fabric for an outfit. Some great fabric designers are Jennifer Paganelli (Sis Boom), Heather Bailey, Amy Butler, Bari J, Paula Prass, Tanya Whelan, Tina Givens, Lila Tueller, Laura Gunn, Genevieve Gail, Sandi Hendersen just to name a few. There are so many out there! I do a lot of my fabric shopping at FatQuarterShop but there are many great fabric shops that have the same fabric like fabritopia, fabfanatic fabrics, fabric attic, fabric cafe, fabric hound, fabric junkie, fabric worm, and there are so many more. New Downloadable Sewing Patterns Coming Soon!

Well, here is my newest project: The Virtuous Apron Collection! These will be my first women patterns. I have so enjoyed putting on an apron in the kitchen and having that magical feeling of going back in time. I even think my food tastes better when cooking with an apron and my husband has surely liked it ;) But most importantly, I want to be "that woman." I want to be virtuous, I want to feel divine and gracious. Through day to day disciplining and falling short of those titles, I still desire to be a virtuous woman that builds up and takes the awesome position of wife and Mom God has blessed me with. This apron just helps me feel a little more like her :).

I am in the process of making a few corrections the testers pointed out. And many thanks to the testers! You are a blessing and your words about the aprons were kind, sweet, and some funny! Just to let you readers know, some of us felt a little sexier in the kitchen with our apron on! A little lipstick, a great looking apron and a little jump in our step had some of us giggling for sure! This is an easy sewing project with a no-handsewing technique for making it reversible which makes for a great gift for Christmas parties and get togethers!

Check out Miss "B" in her Miss Divine apron!! Her mom was one of my testers and her daughter tried it on!! "I must say Miss "B" you look Divine!!!!! ;)"

At this time, these will be downloadable patterns. The first is Miss Divine. She is reversible and charming! (pictured above.) This design may look familiar to you. Not only is this more of a classic apron style but I took my women's dress top that I made this summer and made it into this apron. I still hope to make the dress top a pattern one day.

The second one is Miss Gracious. She has a hint of being sweetly pure and a 1950's feel! I can't wait to show her to you! She can also be a half apron.

Busy Busy as all of us are..... right!? Currently I am working on three projects: the one you see above which is reversible, another project similar to this one, and also working on getting the Scoop Neck Dress Top physical! I will share more in detail about the first two projects soon.

We were able to take some fun family pictures last week (I think I already mentioned this but it is still in my mind)! I am a stressed out crazy Mommy when it comes to try and get everybody to be in a good mood and do their part for pictures. Well, again this year..... it is just not reality for us with small children!!!!! We encountered three meltdowns from three different children at three different times! And then our six year old son had a very loose tooth that made him have this funny weird smile FOR ALMOST ALL OUR PICTURES!! It's ok though..... my husband reminded me we will have many more years for family pictures and that made me feel a little better! The joys of Motherhood! Life is good! May your Thanksgiving holidays be abundantly blessed!

Well, I was able to do the cover and now I will focus on getting this available for download this week. I need to redraw the smaller size sleeves first. The physical pattern will not be ready until December. I will give you a better date as soon as I know more. On a side note: my GrandMother went to be with Jesus early this am so I may be a little delayed. Her arrangements are not known yet; however, she was a loving beautiful role model! She lived a long life (90's), had 9 children, many many grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved and served the Lord for as long as I can remember! I love you, MawMaw!!
