Beginner Sewing Patterns and Beginner Sewers!

I have received such the sweetest emails in the past two days and I just want to share them with you not for the reason to make SewSensible sound good but hopefully to inspire Moms or Aunts or GrandMoms who have been wanting to sew but just fear patterns and directions! I really hope these three emails inspire you to at least try!!

The first one is from the beautiful picture above!! This awesome Mommy used SewSensible FAITH Double Layer Dress Top and she is a BEGINNER!! How awesome is that!! Here is what she said, "I just want to say thank you for making such easy and adorable patterns. I have already purchased the Faith Dress top, Boutique Bottoms and Boutique Dress top. I LOVE them!!! Your directions truly ARE easy to follow. The Faith Dress top was the very first thing that I have ever made, and I made two of them in two days (that was because my job gets in the way of my sewing :( . I made them for my girls and wanted to show you my youngest showing off hers. They love them just as much as I do and I can't wait to try out the other patterns. Keep up the good work!!! Thanks again, J"

Here is the second one I received: "I have been perusing your lovely patterns for some time and can contain myself no longer-- I must try one. I must say that I am excited to find clothes created by another Christian mom that make little girls look like the beautiful, feminine creatures God made them to be rather than miniature pop starlets. This dress (Simple Sunday Dress) is lovely and carefree, just like my daughters, and I can't wait to make it for them. K"

And here is the third one I received last night: "Hi Aimee :) I just want to drop you a line to tell you how much I enjoy your patterns. I am making the Pleated Dress Top models for my local quilt shop. They are outstanding directions! I'll surprise the shop owner when I bring in the matching Boutique Bottoms..... I'm making some for my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter at the same time. She's going to love them. I've been sewing since I could pick up a needle. I've been writing quilt patterns for 15 years and testing other patterns for longer than that. Your's are wonderful and I'll pass the word. Thanks again, T"

Ok!!!!! first wow! Yes I feel so blessed and happy! Now!! are you inspired to sew!!?! C'mon, what are you waiting for!! If you have never sewn and are a little intimidated by it all then please email me and the first 10 I will send you SewSensible Boutique Bottoms for you to try! Now you need your sewing machine manual if you do not even know how to thread your machine or just basics of straight stitch and zig zag stitch which are super easy!! Go ahead and give it a try!! (smile smile) And thank you wonderful Moms and GrandMom for sending me these kind kind words!!!!! I told my husband all about them on the way to church this morning! :)

Have a blessed day today!

New Sewing Pattern coming in February!

I am here, I am here! I feel like Horton hears a Who movie! Here is another picture of the new pattern that will be available in February as a downloadable pattern. The physical pattern will come two months later with a bonus pattern with it! I will keep you posted. I saw online several sites that had the ric rac flower and that is what you see above. I have to say mine surely did not come out like the ones I saw!! I think I will just stick to the original idea of fabric covered buttons (no buttonholes, just for looks). I stopped on the second ric rac flower because I was unhappy with the outcome so I will be taking these off. I am working on the directions which takes me a little time. In the meantime, if you have any awesome custom creations using SewSensible patterns that you would like to showoff, please don't hesitate to send them to me!! They always bless me and inspire others! Also, if you purchased the Scoop Neck Dress Top from YCMT, you can now go to "My Library" on your page and download the new revised version.

I pray all is well with you! We are finally enjoying real Louisiana weather and that makes me happy!!

New Sewing Pattern coming in February!

!!!!! NEW SEWING PATTERN COMING IN FEBRUARY !!!!!

Here are some up close details of the new pattern (with no name yet!). Now this pattern may look like it has some details that are not for a beginner but I have made it super easy for the beginner to make this dress. Some of the details are the scallop accent with fabric cover buttons on each scallop. There are no button holes. The buttons are for looks only. You can also add a small fabric flower/rosettes on each scallop or some vintage buttons. Also if you look closely you will see some rick rack on left edge of scallop accent. This was not something I originally was going to add but I just love the subtle sweet accent of rick rack!

My fabric for the cover came in yesterday!! I do want to make a small change to the front top band to make it fit a little better. This is a drop waist dress that sews together very easily! I will be working on the top band the next couple of days. I will need some testers so thanks to the ones that already let me know. Please email me so that I can place you in this sewing pattern folder of testers.

And check out Nanette from Nanoo Designs who made it into our local newspaper (and thanks to her they added You Can Make This and our etsy shops to the article!!) Congratulations, Nanette, and thanks!!

Also, as I do my normal daily routine, my heart breaks for Haiti and the people there. I have added info on Samaritan's Purse below if you are interested.

Ok, is this not like eye candy!!!!! I have to say I NEVER tire of receiving your custom creations made with SewSensible Boutique Sewing Patterns!! Here is an awesome Mommy creation using SewSensible Applique Apron Skirt sewing pattern. Here is what she said, "Hi Aimee! I'm not sure if you remember me, but I purchased about 4 of your patterns last spring, shortly after I started sewing for my sweet, sweet, E! Anyway, I purchased two more of your patterns yesterday (YES, I'm addicted to them) because they are BY FAR the very best patterns out there! They're detailed, easy to understand, the photos are amazing, and the end results are simply stunning. I wanted to show you some photos of my very own "apron skirt" I whipped up yesterday! As you will see, I made a few slight changes, but I think it turned out absolutely precious! Thank you again for being the inspiration that you are, and please keep those patterns coming!"

Yes!! you know I am tearing up ;) Thank you, C, for sending these pictures in and for your super kind words! You may feel inspired by me but it is you and all others who send in their beautiful creations that inspire the readers of this blog!! Love this!!

FAITH Double Layer Dress Top sewing pattern!

New Sewing Pattern coming soon and Customer Creation!

I received this cute picture of an apron that was done using my bluebirds applique design! So cute!! Thanks so much, R, for sending me this picture! I love it!!

Yesterday I remembered I had some corduroy fabric in a drawer and took it out to use for the new pattern. Well I believe it came out cute but the corduroy was a little too heavy for the shoulder ties which REALLY frustrated me so I am going to not suggest using corduroy for this pattern (unless I change the design of the shoulder ties which I may do). Frustration is not an option for my patterns!! Right?!! Right! The picture below the apron is a small view of the corduroy outfit. I am waiting on my good fabric to come in so that I can add the fabric covered buttons on one and then I will make another one of these dresses with fabric flowers and I have a couple other accents I want to add to a third dress. This dress comes together so well that it is easy to make a couple at a time.

New Sewing Pattern coming in February!

!!!! COMING IN FEBRUARY !!!!

Well, I am going to give you a BIG sneak peak which I promised myself I would wait closer to the release date but I just cannot!! I printed off the fabric (Sandi Hendersen's MeadowSweet) that I will use for the cover and drew up these little designs for you. This gives you a pretty good idea of the look but it surely does not show the details as well as the real thing! This also gives you a look into some of the steps I take to get to an actual outfit! I am really seeing the knee socks and all with this pattern! What do you think?

This will be offered first as a downloadable BUT the good news for this year I will have BONUS patterns with the physical. I have been asked to only do certain patterns for physical and certain patterns for physical and I have considered this but I believe the bonus pattern idea may be more fun and beneficial for all! So starting in 2010 all new designs will be both downloadable and physical EXCEPT the physical patterns will have a couple bonus patterns! I believe everybody will be happy with this! The pattern above is a 1920's inspiration. I will say that the waist band and pleated skirt will be a little lower to create more of a drop waist. There will be a scalloped accent on the front with fabric covered buttons on each scallop. The buttons are for accent only. There are NO BUTTON HOLES! I will also make one with flower accents on each scallop to give it a different look. This pattern, as all my patterns, is designed with the beginner in mind. I was able to make the size 5,6 this morning and it fit Rose very well. So now I have pattern pieces for sizes 3,4,5,6 done and need to make sizes 6m, 9m, 1, 2. I have created this pattern with simple lines and simple directions. It comes together very well!

Fabric side note: Hip Fabric is having a 20% off entire order for New Year!
And please go welcome my friend, Hays from Haysie-Doodle, to the blogging world!!!!!

Beginner Sewing Patterns!

The New Year is here and I am so ready to start sewing! Now just to find the time. Today our two 2 year old granddaughters came to live with us so with a total of 9 children in our home I do know I will surely be trying to manage my time to the fullest :) Above are some fabric combinations that I will use to make several outfits: FAITH Double Layer Dress Top with matching Boutique Bottoms, a Twirl SKORT, and an Applique Apron Skirt. If you are a first time reader of my sewing blog then hello and thank you for stopping by! All of my patterns are designed with the beginner in mind. If you have never sewn anything or just sewed a pillow or a curtain then I suggest the Boutique Bottoms to start. This will familiarize yourself with my patterns and build your confidence to sew. I am also available for any questions you may have while sewing by email. My patterns are downloadable and physical. To purchase my downloadable patterns you can do that at my Etsy shop, my Website, or at You Can Make This. All of my downloadable patterns are $9.95. Here is a link to some question/answers about the downloadable patterns. If you are interested in a physical pattern then I have five available: Boutique Dress Top, Boutique Bottoms, Twirl SKORT, FAITH Double Layer Dress Top, and Reversible Pleated Dress Top. All my physical patterns are $11.50 and are great for Mom's who are new at sewing! If you have a fabric/quilt shop and would like to carry the physical SewSensible Boutique Sewing Patterns then please contact one of the following distributors: Creative Smocking, United Notions and Fabric, or Petersen-Arne. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

I am so ready to get started on the new patterns for 2010! I have narrowed down 5 designs for children's patterns. I will also have two women apron patterns available this month as a downloadable.

2010 looks like a busy year and with having two more added to the family today it is starting early but I know God would not give us anything we cannot handle. Some words I am standing on in 2010 is purposeful living and simple solutions (and of course the power of prayer ;).
